State and Local Policies to Restrict the Use of Lawn Fertilizers
Register for an EPA Watershed Academy Webcast on "State and Local Policies to Restrict the Use of Lawn Fertilizers" on Sept. 21, 2011 --1-3pm Eastern
To register for this Webcast, please visit www.epa.gov/watershedwebcasts.
Join us for a free EPA Watershed Academy webcast titled “Nitrogen and Phosphorus Pollution Series: State and Local Policies to Restrict the Use of Lawn Fertilizers" on Wed., Sept. 21, 2011 at 1pm - 3pm Eastern. Fertilizers, leaves, grass clippings, animal waste, and eroded soil are all sources of phosphorus and nitrogen. When they are swept or washed into the street or nearest storm drain, they end up in your local lake or river where they can cause algal blooms and other water quality problems. This webcast will highlight legislation passed by Minnesota, Michigan and the Chesapeake Bay states to restrict the use of lawn fertilizers and will share key lessons learned. This webcast is one in a series on the important issue of nutrient pollution. Please register for this Webcast at www.epa.gov/watershedwebcasts.
Participants are encouraged to download webcast presentations prior to the webcast at the same url. Webcast participants are also eligible to receive a certificate for their attendance.

14th Annual City of houston water festival
You are invited to the May 10th Water Festival. Twelve hundred students from 13 schools and 46 exhibitors attended the 2006 Water Festival. We are planning for even greater student attendance and exhibitor participation this year. Thanks to the generosity of the Management of the downtown Aquarium, the price of the Aquarium's One-Day Adventure Pass remains at the 2006 price of $5 (a $10 discount) so students, educators and volunteers may explore the Aquarium's interior exhibitors and enjoy all of the outdoor rides. The One-Day adventure pass is valid until 10:00 p.m. that evening. The Water Festival's primary focus is educating 3rd through 8th grade students about water related environmental issues. We are encouraging interactive education activities at the festival that will inspire students to become life-long water stewards. Call 713-837-0509 or email Brenda.templeton@cityofhouston.net for more information.
